Another very sad news: Judy Guion, a.k.a. Judy Clay, famous for her Stax recordings and duets with William Bell (Private Number) and Billy Vera (Storybook Children, on Atlantic Records) has just died. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 26 at 1:00pm at The Whomsoever Will Church in Eastover, North Carolina. She is survived by one sister (Sylvia Shemwell of The Sweet Inspirations), one brother, two children and four grandchildren (news from David Cole). More about this great underrated singer soon on the Stax Site.

John Lee Hooker died on June 20th, 2001 at 83 years. His one and only Stax LP, produced by Henry Stone and recorded in Florida was just a distribution deal. R.I.P.

Thanks to Deanie Parker and Sherman Willmott at Soulsville, USA, a map of the future Stax Museum, to open in 2002. In the center, the most exciting part: the studio A, with its slanted floor and the control room in the upper left corner, with many original Stax equipment, including the piano. In the middle lower part, at the right of the Stax marquee, the Satellite Record Shop.

Johnnie Taylor died just a little more than one year ago, on may 31st, 2000. These photos were taken by french writer-discographer Pierre Daguerre during his one and only european tour, for a single concert which took place in Paris in July 1979.
