Only 5000 copies of this special promo LP were pressed in 1967 and distributed to the US radios. It is nowadays the rarest original Stax LP. All the tracks on it have been reissued on various CDs and even two of the announcements (Otis Redding's and Sam & Dave's) but the actual Soul Sanction track by Booker T. & The MG's on the vinyl LP is noticeably longer in the end (3'10 instead of 2'30 on this CD). The longest and most interesting announcement is the Stax Staff one, just before Soul Sanction by Booker T. & The MG's. It is a discussion in the Stax studio between Sam Moore, Dave Prater, Steve Cropper, Booker T. Jones, Donald Dunn, Al Jackson Jr, David Porter and Deanie Parker about the necessity of getting a high school diploma.

An historic record, with even a letter from the vice-president of the US on the back and a great cover with the "Soulsville USA" letters on the studio's marquee specially changed to "Stay in school, don't be a drop out" for the photo.

                                                                             THE VICE PRESIDENT

AN OPEN LETTER TO YOUNG PEOPLE
FROM VICE PRESIDENT HUMPHREY

First, I want to command the Stax/Volt family of recording artists for their special interest in trying to help yourself.

These artists know the value of a good education and what it will do for you.

By singing their songs and talking to you on this album, they are trying to give encouragement and direction to those young people who are struggling against hardship and difficulty. They are trying to make sure that you understand, fully, the difference an education will make in your life.

These artists know that the high school dropout is headed for disappointment and frustration when he tries to get for a job. He'll meet disappointment when he tries to get a good-paying job, and then face frustration when the job he finally gets does not last too long. Machines are taking over more and more of the unskilled jobs that the uneducated used to get.

Today's good jobs are going to young people who are educated, who have "brain power" and skills. The name of the game is this: Those who learn more, earn more. That high school diploma could mean the difference between a real future and a mere existence.

As you listen to what the talented Stax/Volt artists sing and say, make up your minds to complete your education. Remember, THOSE WHO LEARN MORE...EARN MORE! My young friends, that's where the action is!!!

                                       Sincerely,

                                                     Hubert H. Humphrey
