Scott Bomar's Bo-Keys are the heirs of the Mar-Keys, including some musicians previously at Stax: Willie Hall, Charles "Skip" Pitts, Ben Cauley and Floyd Newman.Some tracks are instrumentals and some have great singers, such as WiIliam Bell, Otis Clay, Charlie Musselwite or Percy Wiggins.

Booker T. Jones' historic life in music has brought him international fame, awards (he's a three-time Grammy winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer), and iconic status as one of the architects of American soul music. With his new album The Road From Memphis due May 10 on Anti- Records, Jones traces his journey from his hometown of Memphis, TN to the world stage. The album follows Jones' 2009 Anti- release Potato Hole which won the Grammy for "Best Pop Instrumental Album."
Produced by Jones with The Roots' Questlove and Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliot Smith), Memphis was recorded by Daptone Records mastermind Gabriel Roth with backing by The Roots. Guest vocalists include Matt Berninger of the National and Sharon Jones on "Representing Memphis," Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket on "Progress" and Lou Reed on "The Bronx." The album also features a rare vocal from Jones himself offering a first-hand look at his hometown on "Down in Memphis." Legendary motor-city guitarist Dennis Coffey contributes to the album as well.

MARVELL THOMAS GOT A NOTE ON BEALE STREET

Like many Memphis artists, Marvell Thomas, got a well deserved Beale Street note to appear on the famous Beale pavement. Marvell was a musician at Stax from the very beginning, son of Rufus and brother of Carla and Vaneese.

GRAMMY AWARD

Al Bell Receives
2011 Trustees Award in Grammy Awards.
The Memphis Music Foundation and the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, located at the original site of Stax Records, proudly congratulate Al Bell on receiving the highest honor the music industry offers, the Trustees Award, given by the Board of Trustees of the Recording Academy.
Bell now joins the pantheon of musical icons who have received the prestigious honor, including the Beatles, Walt Disney, George and Ira Gershwin, Berry Gordy, Duke Ellington, and Stax Records' ex co-owner Estelle Axton.
For Bell, the honor represents a milestone in his lifetime love of music and work in the industry and has been presented at an invitation-only ceremony during GRAMMY Week on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, and a formal acknowledgment will be made during the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast.
