ISAAC HAYES AT WATTSTAX
(March 15, 2003)

Isaac Hayes at WattStax

ISAAC HAYES AT WATTSTAX
Stax/Fantasy SCD-88042-2

It was conceived as a black Woodstock, and indeed the 1972 Wattstax festival stands as one of the most monumental events in the history of African-American popular music. Stax Records issued much of the proceedings on two double-disc LP sets, yet the seven-hour concert's biggest star--singer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer Isaac Hayes--was represented by only one track: a 17-minute medley of Bill Withers's "Ain't No Sunshine" and Ray Charles's "Lonely Avenue" featuring some absolutely incendiary alto saxophone blowing by Black Moses himself. Now, more than 30 years after the fact, comes the entirety of the glorious hour-long Los Angeles Coliseum set by Hayes and his powerhouse orchestra, known as the Movement, in front of 112,000 ecstatic fans. Hayes, who turned 30 years of age on that very day, was at the height of his popularity and, as the music herein attests, at the peak of his considerable creative powers.

Theme from Shaft, Soulsville, Never Can Say Goodbye, Part Time Love, Your Love Is So Doggone Good, Ain't No Sunshine/Lonely Avenue, I Stand Accused, Finale: Rev. Jesse Jackson/Jimmy Jones: If I Had a Hammer.

Available in USA from April 1.

WATTSTAX ON VHS AND DVD IN 2003
(March 9, 2003)

A mail from Michael Kelly from the Saul Zaentz Film Center: The film has just been completely restored to it's original glory with two "lost" performances by Isaac Hayes restored to the film ("Shaft" and "Soulsville"), the songs were removed because of a rights dispute before the film was released back in 1973. The film has a new 5.1 dolby digital mix made from the original master tapes.  The new restored film  was selected to this years Sundance film festival where it played to riotous packed houses.
The film will play in theatres in America in June with a home video / DVD  later this year.
I have worked on the restoration and I am now starting to work on getting the word out to the masses about the rebirth of this classic piece of history.
We have a website up - right now it is a basic site with pictures and bios, but in a few weeks we will roll out a flashier site with Video clips - more pics and graphics etc.

Go to the official site at www.wattstax.com for more details, great photos, document and links about WattStax. More soon.

Otis Redding The Soul Album 180 gram vinyl LP
Otis Redding In Person At The Whisky A Go Go 180 gram vinyl LP
Otis Redding Live In Europe 180 gram vinyl LP

Nobody burrowed more deeply into a song than Otis Redding—the most emotive, soulful singer the '60s ever produced. With the Stax/Volt horn section wailing in his wake, Redding's grainy voice and impassioned, sweat-soaked delivery kept him straddling both pop and soul charts until his untimely death in 1967. Here is an 180-gram vinyl exact reproduction of 1966's The Soul Album in knockout mono. Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fabulous! All these gems will be available from February from
