R.B. HUDMON +

BIOGRAPHY

R. B. Hudmon, a great locally-known soul/blues singer from Columbus, Georgia, died on August 25, 1995. He was born in 1954. His Truth Record was intended as a one-up deal. The company insisted on plugging "If You Won't Cheat On Me (I Won't Cheat On You)," but it didn't sell very well. It was played in Columbus on WOKS-AM and in Atlanta for a week or two. A disc jockey at WOKS flipped the record over on the air one night and said "This here's the side, folks." The telephones lit up. Word got out amongst disc jockeys and the other side of the disc, "How Can I Be A Witness" became quite a solid regional hit in the late summer of 1975. It was one of the last records made at Stax and produced by Jim Stewart before it closed. The disc was then released to Atlantic for national distribution. Hudmon recorded at least two other 45's for Atlantic.
